Thanks to Laura Johnson for sharing this very special Lamp memory! If you have one to share with us, email us at email@example.com.I always enjoyed going to the Lamp Theater as a child, but the lamp theater has an extra special meaning to my family. When we heard about the Lamp possibly being restored, it surely brought back a lot of fond memories for my mother. My mother, Betty Kretchek, who will be 85 years old, worked as a ticket taker at the lamp when she was just 15 years old. She explained to me there was a “ticket booth” out front. She was very excited since it was her first job. While working there she met a serviceman who who would regularly come to the shows. He eventually asked her out on a date. They only dated 3 weeks until he got the call to go into the service (World War II). They kept in touch by letter throughout the next several years and upon his return they married. My parents, Theodore and Betty Kretchek, were married for 64 years. Sadly, my father passed away on April 22, 2009. Everytime I drive by the Lamp with my mother, she looks at it and smiles, remembering how she met my father.
